Today, great number of Siberian cats live all over the vast Siberian wilderness, keeping their tradition and myth of being unwavering creatures. Thanks to its devotion, strong temper and natural instincts, farmers kept this cat for protection of their crops from a variety of pests and rodents. It is assumed that breed was developed by crossing the Ukrainian wild cat and domestic cats in Siberia, which led to creation of a natural breed, developing its own characteristics in time, fitting given life conditions. Siberian cat was often mentioned in Russian folk stories and fairytales as a protector of the children and guardian of the inconspicuous world of magic. ![]() This cat, the one that nature gave all necessary features to survive harsh natural conditions, thousands of years ago took prominent position within households of Russian farmers and traders. Wild Siberian forest, extreme climate, harsh winters, vast and unexplored Siberian wilderness created conditions for development of the one of contemporary Russian symbols, Siberian cat, also known as Russian national cat. ![]()
